Speaker Stands

You may never have thought about using speaker stands before. you might have hi-fi equipment and some expensive speakers that sit quite happily on the floor and never have given speaker stands a moment's thought.

Speaker stands are for anyone who takes their music seriously. Granted, if you are listening to mp3s, sound quality might not be high enough to warrant spending a lot of money on your audio experience, but if you are looking to improve the quality of sound you get with existing hardware, speaker stands are the most cost-effective way of doing this.

A good speaker stand has the following qualities:

• stops vibration through its weight, design or torsional strength
• places speaker's tweeters at ear level
• disconnects speaker from floor
• fits in with the look of your hi fi system and the decor of your room

There are a number of speaker stand manufacturers each with a great degree of specialisation. Moder speaker stands satisfy all of the above criteria and some allow you to fill them with sand or high-density materials to add extra weight to the stand and to minimise air gaps.
